In 2017 our 10 year old son, whom we adopted through foster care the previous year, testified against his biological father in court. It was a terrifying experience for all of us. I wrote this story to help other children, who have to testify, process their emotions.
There would not be a story without our son’s courage, those who volunteered to edit, those who provided translations, Gina Dee’s illustrations that brought the book to life, and child advocates around the country that fight to keep children safe every day.
